How to choose extension ladders

Compare three different measurements: closed length for transport, extended length for positioning, and permitted standing height for the task. A longer ladder is not automatically a better choice if it is difficult to move and secure.

Two sections or three?

Three sections can provide longer extension from a shorter stored frame. Compare total weight, overlap requirements, rung shape and the stabiliser footprint. Allow space to raise and lower the ladder safely.

Look beyond maximum length

A ladder must be secured against slipping. Gutters and glazing are not suitable upper resting points. A compatible stand-off may help position a ladder, but does not remove the need for a safe, secured setup.
