Start with the method
Long-reach tools or a professional service may avoid a climb. If a ladder is appropriate, it needs firm level ground, a strong upper support and a way to secure it against slipping. A plastic gutter is not a strong resting point.
What to compare
Check the extension length, permitted standing level, closed length and weight. A compatible stand-off can help provide clearance, but does not automatically secure the ladder or make every wall suitable.
Avoid a long sideways reach
Repeatedly repositioning equipment can be slower than reaching, but leaning outside the frame can destabilise the setup. Choose equipment and a method that let you maintain a suitable working position.
Know when to change equipment
Awkward ground, fragile roofs, overhead lines, difficult access and longer work can make a ladder inappropriate. Roof access is a separate specialist issue; do not treat hooks supplied with a portable ladder as a complete roof safety system.
